Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 15 May 2021, the Holy Father appointed as bishop of the apostolic vicariate of Iquitos, Peru, the Reverend Fr. Miguel Ángel Cadenas Cardo, O.S.A., until now superior regional of the Order of Saint Augustine in Iquitos.
Msgr. Miguel Ángel Cadenas Cardo, O.S.A., was born on 21 October 1965 in Laguna de Negrillos in Spain. After completing his primary and secondary studies in Léon, he entered the Order of Augustinians and studied philosophy and theology at the Studio Teológico Agustiniano of Valladolid. He gave his religious vows on 5 May 1991 and was ordained a priest on 27 November 1993.
Since priestly ordination he has held the following offices: parish vicar in Mostoles, Spain (1993-1994); parish vicar in Iquitos (1994-1996); parish priest of Santa Rita de Castilla on the Rio Marañon (1996-2001); formator in the Augustinian Seminary in Trujillo (2002-2003); parish priest of San Felipe y Santiago in Nauta (2003-2013); parish priest of Santa Rita de Castilla on the Rio Marañon (2013-2014) and, since 2015, of the Inmaculada Concepción in Iquitos.
Until now he has been superior general of the Order of Saint Augustine in Iquitos and coordinator of the project to merge the three Augustinian Provinces in Peru. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 17/5/2021)
