AMERICA/CHILE - Appointment of the interim National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, Mgr. Jorge Patricio Vega Velasco

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On February 27, 2021 Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed His Exc Mgr. Jorge Patricio Vega Velasco, SVD, Bishop Prelate of Illapel interim National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Chile.
Mgr. Jorge Patricio Vega Velasco, S.V.D., was born in Santiago (Chile) on June 12, 1957. He completed his ecclesiastical studies of philosophy in the Major Seminary of Santiago and those of theology at the Argentine Catholic University in Buenos Aires. On 1 March 1983 he made his religious profession as a member of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) and was ordained a priest on 22 December 1984. He was a Missionary in Angola for 13 years. From 1997 to 2003 he was Secretary for the Missions of his Institute in Chile. In 2003 he was appointed National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Chile and Director of the magazine "Chile Misionero". On 20 February 2010 he was appointed by Benedict XVI as Bishop Prelate of Illapel. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 6/5/2021)
