Bangkok (Agenzia Fides) - "It is with deep sadness and great regret that we follow recent events in Myanmar. We see too much hatred, too much violence, too much bloodshed, and too much suffering. We see the pain inflicted on a peace-loving people who only demand democracy and their just rights. The efforts of the people aim to build unity, justice, freedom and equal opportunities for all citizens": this is what the Catholic bishops of Thailand write in an open letter sent to Fides, to the Church and to all the people of Myanmar, expressing their concern and closeness in the current situation of tension and violence.
"If a member suffers, all the members suffer with him; if a member is honored, all the members rejoice with him", says the text of the Bishops, citino the Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians, and sending from the entire Thai Catholic community a message of fraternity and solidarity to the Burmese nation.
"For centuries the members of our Churches have been good neighbors, living as brothers and sisters. You are suffering. We suffer with you", say the Thai Bishops, together with the Holy Father who, in a recent appeal, said "I too kneel on the streets of Myanmar and say: stop the violence! I too extend my arms and say: let dialogue prevail!
The message acknowledges that the people of Myanmar, who demand democracy and peace, "remain within the rule of law, respect for the law and the pursuit of justice and harmony". "Asia is a continent of peace and hope, of warm family ties. We are one family. We all want to help you", reads the text sent to Fides which hopes to start a "path of dialogue, reconciliation and return to normality".
Finally, the Bishops of Thailand assure their prayers and place Myanmar under the protection of the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph.
