Abidjan (Agenzia Fides) - "Come and see: Communicate by meeting people where and how they are" is the theme of Pope Francis' message for the 55th World Day of Social Communication, which was celebrated on Saturday, March 20th. On this occasion, Catholic journalists and media workers were invited to the parish of John the Baptist in Sassako-Bégnini in the diocese of Yopougon, Fr. Patrick Ossein, invited Catholic journalists to commit themselves to the truth and to testify to it.
"With this theme, the Pope calls on us to give up our habits as office journalists and to verify all the information by going to the source", said Fr. Patrick Ossein to the 60 Catholic journalists and media representatives present.
Fr. Lambert Lath, on behalf of the President of the Episcopal Commission for Social Communication, Bishop Raymond Ahoua of Grand-Bassam, asked Catholic journalists and media professionals to respect values and to listen to the Holy Spirit in the exercise of their functions. "Today the values in our country and also in our Church tend to disappear. There is no future for any company that does not respect the values it has set itself. And this is why our Bishop invites journalists to respect common values in order to be able to live together peacefully and, as journalists, to strive to report what is good, what is beautiful and what is right", he said.
The gathering was organized by the Ivorian Association of Catholic Journalists and Media Professionals AIJCCa, which was founded in 2013 and is also a branch of the Union of the African Catholic Press (Ucap) in Ivory Coast. (S.S.) (Agenzia Fides, 24/3/2021)
