Boroko (Agenzia Fides) - Moments of prayer, sharing, presentations, questions, debates followed one another during the day of March 13, organized at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Mary Help of Christians of Boroko. The occasion was the Life Matters Program dedicated to Respect and the Dignity of Life for young people from various schools and from a number of Parishes in the country's capital. The event, coordinated by the Bishops' Conference Social Communications Commission with support from Caritas Papua New Guinea, Family Life, Youth and other commissions, focused on respect for life at the time of its conception.
“It is important that you share what you have learned in your schools and parishes,” said Fr. Ambrose Pereira sdb, Program Coordinator, addressing the young participants. Young people are among the main users of the media and the program has aimed to provide them with a platform on which to share their faith and grow in spirituality.
Also, the congratulations of the Archbishop of Port Moresby, Cardinal John Ribat, who described the development of spiritual and sacramental programs for young people at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians as important.
In one of the interventions, Sister Alice Fulgencio, FMA, explained to young people the difference between 'pro-life' and 'pro-choice'. In this regard, the testimony of a life activist was screened with the aim of helping young people to make decisions based on ethical and moral values according to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
The organizers of the program were expecting over 300 participants but the number was limited to allow respect for social distancing. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 16/3/2021)
