AMERICA - Red Clamor campaign until September on human trafficking

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - Red Clamor Network (Migration and Human Trafficking) presented the program of activities of the "Life is not a commodity, but concerns people" campaign which will last until September 2021. According to the note sent to Fides by CELAM, Elvy Monzant, Executive Secretary of Red Clamor, recalled that "through this campaign we intend above all to make visible the different forms of human trafficking that exist on the continent, through which organized crime organizations transform human beings into commodities".
"We also want to provide educational and pastoral tools for the prevention of human trafficking - he added - and to make known the various works carried out within the Church with a view to the pastoral accompaniment of victims and to denounce this evil that affects human beings on the continent".
The campaign officially began on February 7 with a prayer vigil on the eve of the feast of Saint Josefina Bakita and of the World Day against Human Trafficking, and will end in September, as part of the World Day of Migrants and Refugees.
Monzant specified that "each month, we will reflect on a specific theme: in March we will talk about trafficking for sexual exploitation and prostitution; in April of forced recruitment by armed groups; in May of slave labor; in June organ trafficking; in July child trafficking for sexual purposes; in August of the theme of the denunciation of human trafficking while in September the General Assembly of the Red Clamor Network, before the celebration of the World Day of Migrants and Refugees".
