AFRICA/SUDAN - Health authorities are calling for extreme caution despite the decline in coronavirus infections

Monday, 1 March 2021 pandemic   coronavirus

Khartoum (Agenzia Fides) - "The severity of the pandemic is unabated, the situation in the region is unstable and worrying", warns the Supreme Committee on Health Emergencies in Sudan. Despite a slight decrease in infections and deaths from Covid-19 - reads the note of the Committee sent to Agenzia Fides - it is more than ever necessary to apply strict preventive measures in particular in schools, and to carry out health checks at airports and at National borders and by sea.
The Ministry of Health in the state of Khartoum deplores the "lack of commitment of most parents and students in the implementation of health precautions" and called on society as a whole to take the situation seriously and to exercise caution.
To ensure a safe return to public activities, the Committee recommended that the implementation of health measures be tightened and the sanctions for violations reviewed.
The Emergency and Epidemic Control Department of the Khartoum Ministry of Health confirmed 15 new cases of Covid-19 on February 17, while the capital continued to register the most cases compared to the rest of the cities, a total of 6,474 since the pandemic began.
According to the general Report, the state of El Gezira alone recorded a total of 2,177 suspected cases from October 22, 2020 to February 16, 2021, of whom 983 tested positive and 200 deaths. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 1/3/2021)
