Warsaw (Agenzia Fides) - Due to the provisions to contain the coronavirus epidemic, the meeting of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Poland took place on February 9th as part of a video conference. Diocesan directors from all over Poland, together with the representatives of the National Direction and the President of the Episcopal Commission for Missions, Bishop H.E. Jerzy Mazur SVD, attended the online event to summarize and plan missionary activities for the new year.
"In 2020, many initiatives were canceled. The health situation made it difficult to organize events and meetings. However, we look to the future with hope. This year we will prepare for next year 2022, when we will celebrate the great anniversaries of the Pontifical Mission Societies", said Fr. Maciej Będziński, National Director of the PMS, in the note sent to Fides.
Sister Monika Juszka RMI, National Secretary of the Pontifical Society of Missionary Childhood (POSI), spoke about the preparations for the next Synod of Missionary Childhood, in 2022: "We have already prepared a synodal prayer, which the children in the groups of the Children's Mission Societies have been praying since September 2020. Soon we will also publish the synod logo and the hymn. The guidelines for the selection of delegates from among the children of the dioceses are already available to the diocesan directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies".
Father Luca Bovio IMC, National Secretary of the Pontifical Missionary Union (PUM), summarized the work of 2020 and announced the date of the next national meeting, which will include a missiology session and the traditional prayer vigil in Jasna Góra. These events will take place on November 27-28, 2021. The rectors of the seminary had been asked to consider the possibility of online education for deacons from all over Poland.
Andrzej Lendzion, director of the Missio Polonia publishing house, also took part in the video conference of the Pontifical Mission Societies. In his annual report he also presented the new distribution of missionary work materials in online format.
The focus of the conference was the planning of initiatives and celebrations on the occasion of the anniversaries in 2022: the 400th anniversary of the foundation of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, the 200th anniversary of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the 100th anniversary of the recognition of the Societies as Pontifical.
