AMERICA/PERU - In Arequipa a hundred local children take part in Lent Missionary Retreat Day

Tuesday, 14 March 2006

Arequipa (Fides Service) - To help local Catholics make Lent a time of conversion, the archdiocese of Arequipa has organised a series of Day Retreats for various categories of people, children young people, married couples, the elderly and finally, the sick. On Sunday 12 March over a hundred local children gathered El Pilar School for a Day of Lenten Missionary Retreat with the slogan “On the Sunday of the Transfiguration Jesus calls us to be missionaries”.
Fr Victor Livori Grech MSSP Diocesan Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Arequipa said “with these Days of retreat we aim to make children aware that as baptised Christians they are called by Jesus to be missionaries”. The little missionaries were guided in their reflection by a team of volunteer catechists from the John Paul II Pastoral Centre in Arequipa Paolo II. The themes were: “What sacrifice would you make for love of God?”, “Who can separate us from the love of Christ?”. (RZ) (Agenzia Fides 14/3/2006 righe 17 parole 176)
