Lima (Agenzia Fides) - In the presence of the President of the Republic of Peru, Francisco Sagasti, and the Minister of Health, Pilar Mazzetti, the solidarity initiative "Breathe Peru" (see Fides, 2/7/2020) presented yesterday the first six installations of oxygen fully assembled in Peru by the company Motores Diesel Andinos SA. Three of these will be delivered through an assignment contract to health entities for the regions in need.
The equipment in question can produce 20 m3 of 93% pure medical oxygen and simultaneously serve more than 30 patients with Covid-19 patients, hospitalized in intensive care in the country, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The oxygen treatment devices were assembled by Modasa at the request of "Breathe Peru", a solidarity initiative supported by the Episcopal Conference, the National Society of Industries and San Ignacio de Loyola University.
The modular system of production allows facilities to work together in a network in the event that it is necessary to supply a hospital with more oxygen.
Peru is currently facing the second wave of the pandemic with a high number of new cases of Covid-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Catholic Church has been one of the main actors in the management of aid and the reception of the sick, thanks to the rapid organization of social pastoral workers in almost the entire Peruvian territory. Through "Breathe Peru" thousands of lives have been saved across the country. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 22/1/2021)
