AFRICA/TANZANIA - Inauguration of the Nazareth-Mwendakulima Seminary located in Kahama

Dar es Salaam (Agenzia Fides) - The inaugural Mass of the Seminary was celebrated by Cardinal Polycarp Pengo, Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam and concelebrated by 26 Bishops and many priests - from the Secretariat of the Episcopal Conference of Tanzania, but also the Rectors and formators of other seminaries as well as the priests of the Diocese of Kahama and neighboring Dioceses. Among the participants there were seminarians, men and women religious, lay people from the Diocese of Kahama and many others. As part of this liturgical celebration, cassocks and belts were officially blessed and given to seminarians as their official liturgical clothing.
In his homily, referring to his experience in the late 1970s when he was appointed the first Rector of the then newborn St. Charles Lwanga Segerea Seminary, the Cardinal stressed that the institution of a new Seminary is the work of God and that we should not worry, despite the challenges already encountered and those that may still arise. He strongly emphasized that if it was possible to set up a new Seminary during the harsh conditions of the late 1970s, why not today? There is no reason to be concerned, God is with us forever (Mt 28: 19-20). He then thanked in particular the Bishops, the local and foreign benefactors and all those who contributed in one way or another to the construction of the Seminary.
