Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 29 November 2020, the Holy Father appointed rev. Michael Otieno Odiwa, of the clergy of Homa Bay, currently a Fidei Donum priest in the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Adelaide (Australia) as Bishop of the Diocese of Homa Bay (Kenya).
His Exc. Mgr. Michael Otieno Odiwa was born on 11 November 1962 in Sori Karungu, in the Diocese of Homa Bay. From 1972 to 1979 he attended the local primary schools while secondary schools at St. John's Seminary in Rakwaro (1980-1983)and Mother of the Apostles Seminary in Eldoret (1984-1985). After the preparatory year at St. Mary's Senior Seminary, in the Diocese of Nakuru (1986), he completed his studies in Philosophy at St. Augustine's Senior Seminary in Mabanga, in the Diocese of Bungoma (1987-1988) and those of Theology at St. Matthias Mulumba Senior Seminary of Tindinyo, in the Diocese of Eldoret (1989-1992). He was ordained a priest on 3 July 1993 for the Diocese of Homa Bay.
He has held the following positions: Pastoral ministry at St. Theresa's Parish in Asumbi (1993-1997); Formator at St. John's Seminary (1997-1998) and Parish priest of Our Lady of Fatima in Rakwaro (1998-2000). He studied in Rome at the Pontifical Urbaniana University, where he obtained a Doctorate in Canon Law, residing at the St. Peter’s College (2000-2005). He was also: Parish priest at the Sacred Heart of Ang'iya (2005-2009); Parish priest of St. Arnold in Nyalieng’a (2009-2012); Parish priest of St. Paul's Parish Cathedral (2012-2015); Vicar General (2007-2015); since 2015 Fidei Donum Priest in the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Adelaide (Australia), Parochial Vicar of the Annunciation Church in Hectorville and Defender of the Bond of the Provincial Ecclesiastical Court.
