ASIA/KOREA - Appointment of Auxiliary Bishop of Daejeon

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 28 November 2020, the Holy Father appointed rev. Stephanus Han Jung Hyun, of the clergy of Daejeon, currently Parish priest of the Holy Family Parish, as Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Daejeon (Korea), assigning him the titular See of Mozotcori.
His Exc. Mgr. Stephanus Han Jung Hyun was born on 7 September 1971 in Hong Sung in the Diocese of Daejeon (Korea). After primary and secondary schools, he entered the Major Seminary in Seoul and studied Philosophy and Theology, from 1990 to 1996 and later went to the Major Seminary in Daejeon, from 1997 to 1999. He was ordained a priest on February 21, 2000 for the clergy of Daejeon.
Since his ordination he has held the following positions: Parish Vicar of Tanbangdong Parish (2000-2001); Parish Vicar of Dangjin Parish (2001-2002); Student in Rome at the Pontifical Biblical Institute where he obtained a Licentiate in Ancient East Studies (2002-2010); Assistant Spiritual Father at St. Joseph's College, Rome (2010-2013). He later was: Parish priest of Bedne Parish (2013-2016); Member of the Presbyterial Council and Secretary General of the Diocesan Synod (2015-2019); since 2014 he has been a member of the Commission for the permanent formation of the clergy and of the group of Book Censors and since 2019 Parish priest of the Holy Family Parish.
