ASIA/INDIA - Appointment of the Rector of the Saint Francis Xavier Regional Philosophical Seminary in Agra

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 13 February 2020, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed Fr. Joseph Francis D'Souza, of the diocesan clergy of Allahabad, as Rector of the Saint Francis Xavier Regional Philosophical Seminary, in the Archdiocese of Agra, India.
The new Rector was born on 9 March 1965 in Mangalore, India, and was ordained a priest on 19 May 1999 in the church of St. Rita in Mangalore. After primary school he attended Saint Paul Minor Seminary in Lucknow, then studied philosophy and theology at Saint Joseph Regional Major Seminary in Allahabad. In 2004 he obtained a M.A. in philosophy at the University of Agra.
After his ordination, he was assistant parish priest in Saltanpur for two years, then held the positions of formator, spiritual director, professor first at the Saint Francis Xavier regional Seminary in Agra and then at the minor Seminary in Allahabad. Since 2012 he was formator, professor and vice rector of the Saint Francis Xavier interdiocesan major philosophical Seminary in Agra. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 31/10/2020)
