Puerto Maldonado (Agenzia Fides) - The First Plenary Assembly of the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA) begins today, 26 October, which coincides with the first anniversary of the closing of the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for the Pan-Amazon region (6 -27 October 2019). The virtual meeting, which will take place for two days, will be attended by all the Bishops of the Pan-Amazon and all the collaborators, about 300 people in total, representatives of the various institutions and ecclesial realities of the area, of the native peoples and communities of this territory.
Among the objectives of this meeting is to find new concrete ways to give life and implement some of the priority commitments that emerged from the discernment carried out in the Synod, as well as to start a process of formulating a Global Pastoral Plan that will be gradually implemented, collecting the motions of those who will be present at this first plenary assembly. During the two days of the assembly, the identity and mission of CEAMA will be deepened, as well as the cries of pain and the songs of hope of the Amazon and its peoples in this moment of the Covid-19 pandemic.
