Penang (Agenzia Fides) - "Monday of the Open Mic", where "Mic" stands for "microphone" and the acronym is MOM: this is the name of the new web platform launched by the Diocesan Youth Network of Penang, a diocese in Peninsular Malaysia. As Fides learns, this is a project that intends to provide young Catholics with a specific platform to share their experiences of faith. The platform, which will contain testimonies and life stories, was inspired by Pope Francis' post-synodal apostolic exhortation "Christus vivit".
"The main purpose of MOM is to have a web space where everyone can testify their story of faith in real life and talk about their encounter with Jesus Christ. This allows us to become aware of the gift of faith, received from God, and to be able to give it to others, as baptized and missionaries", explains to Fides Fr. Simon Anand, animator of the youth ministry of the diocese of Penang.
On the other hand, MOM is also considered a sort of "Open Mic" space because this project intends to welcome testimonies of young people of all cultures and backgrounds, regardless of their geographical location, age, culture, religion. "Young people are encouraged and enthusiastic", says the priest.
In an area of the platform, called "Beatitudes", "the testimonies will be collected and published on social media, namely Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook and Youtube, so that everyone can participate in the listening and reflection", explained Jason Joseph, a youth leader. In another area of the platform, called "Empowerment", young people will be able to participate in debates or listen to special guests, including non-Christians, who, in turn, will have the opportunity to share their story, their thoughts, with a view to dialogue that is always enriching.
The project is part of the youth pastoral initiatives that intend to offer young people opportunities to grow in faith, accompanying them in actions in favor of justice, interreligious dialogue, inculturation of the Gospel. The Diocesan Network of Penang provides resources, formation and activities for young people and students, also taking care of partnerships with ecclesial organizations and movements and also with NGOs and other civil society entities.
The diocese of Penang is in the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia. It covers five Malaysian states which are Penang, Kedah, Perlis, Perak and Kelantan. (SD-PA) (Agenzia Fides, 2/10/2020)
