Rome (Agenzia Fides) - “To the ends of the Earth” is the title of the new live column dedicated to young people, for a virtual journey to discover the daily work of missionaries in the world. The inaugural meeting will be tonight at 8 pm, 1 October, beginning of the missionary month, through the Zoom platform and live on the Facebook page of "Terra e Missione", the online magazine dedicated to missionary life and integral ecology.
The missionary Institutes that collaborate in the project are: Missionaries of Mary-Xaverians, Comboni Missionaries, Consolata Missionaries, Immaculate-PIME Missionaries, Scalabrinian Missionaries, SMA (Society of African Missions), Franciscan Friars Minor.
During each monthly appointment young people will get to know a different missionary reality: the journey will begin on October 22 from Thailand, in the company of the missionaries of Mary-Xaverians, and then continue in November in Bangladesh, in the leper colony run by the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate-PIME. In each meeting the next date will be communicated. There will also be live links from the missions in Africa: stops will be made at the Comboni Sisters working in the “Comboni Girls School” in Khartoum, Sudan; at the Consolata missionaries, who share their lives with the small farmers of Madagascar; at the Scalabrinians in South Africa, for years alongside migrants; at the mission of the Franciscan Friars Minor, instruments of peace through service and interreligious dialogue, in Morocco; at the fathers of the SMA (African Mission Society) in the northwest of Liberia, near the border with Guinea. In the Americas we will stop in Vilacaya, in Bolivia, where the Consolata sisters are present; in Brazil, at the Comboni community of Piquiá de Baixo, a neighborhood overwhelmed by the mining industry; to conclude the journey with the work of the Scalabrinian Sisters with the community of Tijuana, Mexico, on the border with the United States of America.
During each link, and in the following week, it will be possible to make donations through the new dedicated app, to support the projects of the 10 congregations and make a concrete contribution to reducing inequalities in the world. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 1/10/2020)
