Lima (Agenzia Fides) - "A service under the sign of missionary synodality, integral conversion, with a prophetic voice, decentralized and with an integrative continental vision and the articulation and integration of ecclesiastical bodies in a Network of networks": with this in mind the Council of Latin American Bishops' Conferences (CELAM) organized a two-day virtual meeting of the presidents of the 22 American bishops' conferences.
Mgr. Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte, Archbishop of Trujillo (Peru) and president of CELAM, opened the meeting on 21 and 22 September, recalling that the 37th General Assembly of CELAM held in Tegucigalpa (Honduras), in May 2019, defined the mandate of "Renewal and Restructuring" of CELAM, with the aim of giving life to an organizational structure that is lighter, more flexible and effective in its responses, especially pastoral, and fully willing to face the challenges of the reality of the Church on the Continent.
In the note sent to Fides, Mgr. Cabrejos explains that this objective presupposes a process under construction, which is implemented according to a theological-pastoral discernment of the signs of the times, to bring about a global conversion and promote an evangelizing, missionary, synodal and Church that goes forth, which takes into account the reality of the continent, without losing sight of the fact that processes are always transversal, and that "everything is interconnected".
