Abidjan (Agenzia Fides) - "To celebrate the month of October, the month of mission in the Church, we wanted to direct our action on the media", said Fr. Jean Noel Gossou, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Ivory Coast during the preparatory meeting for the missionary month of October, held on September 16 at his headquarters on the Abidjan Plateau.
"We thought it appropriate to use these means to convey the Pope's message, to convey the importance of the mission", underlined Fr. Gossou, indicating that this decision follows the recommendations of the last world meeting of the National Directors of the PMS.
"In our last meeting of the National Directors, our leaders in Rome recommended that we appeal to the media so that they too, by vocation, can call to be a vector of the importance of the mission", he explained, adding that "for the celebration of the missionary month October 2020, programs will be broadcast on the local media: the national Catholic television Ecclésia TV, the national Catholic radio "La Voix de l'Evangile" and Radio Espoir, the diocesan radio of Grand-Bassam".
The various programs will address issues such as the role of the PMS in the Church, the importance of mission and how to arouse missionary awakening in Christians, with the involvement of the National Director of the PMS, his collaborators and the missionary institutes existing in the Country.
"Here I am, send me" Is 6,8, the theme of the missionary month of October 2020, was also the subject of the preparatory meeting of the National Office, enriched by the presence of some members of the network of missionary institutes responsible for helping the national leadership of the PMS in its mission, awakening the missionary awareness in all the baptized.
"The Pope in his message to all nations underlined that we are in a context in which the world is upset by the Covid-19 pandemic and other socio-political situations. So “here I am, send me” is an answer that the Christian gives to be sent to this upset world to bring the message of hope, the message of the salvation of Christ", underlined the National Director.
Finally, Fr. Gossou included the theme of this year's Missionary Month in the Ivorian context on the eve of the presidential elections (to be held on 31 October), while the population deals with fear, the Christian must be able to "accept to go on mission to bring the message of hope, peace, social cohesion; therefore "Here I am, send me": is also knowing how to respond to Christ and bring the Word in the hearts of all".
