Lilongwe (Agenzia Fides) - "The Catholic Church in Malawi seriously believes that in compliance with the severe containment measures of Covid-19, including social distancing, Christians must continue to evangelize also through social media" said Fr. Godino Phokoso, national communications coordinator of the Bishops' Conference of Malawi (ECM), on the occasion of the meeting of the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) in Lilongwe.
"In a health context like the current one - continues the priest - social media should be useful to allow us to spread the Gospel, inspiring trust and hope among believers in a new recovery of the country while the government and institutions continue to fight the Coronavirus pandemic".
Christians must be considered fundamental partners of the government in responding to natural disasters, such as the current health and environmental emergencies, highlights the bishops' note.
"We will use all the resources at our disposal to help vulnerable groups respond to Covid-19. We want to appeal to Christians and people of good will to support our cause", said Lucy Vokhiwa, executive member of the CWO, and added that the organization is mobilizing resources to support the most vulnerable groups.
The ECM urged Christians to see social media as a means of spreading messages of hope and not a platform for promoting fake news.
The meeting, held at Luntha Television Chapel, saw the participation of all the Catholic dioceses of Malawi, and is part of the activities organized by the CWO as part of the celebration of the next World Mission Day 2020. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 8/9/2020)
