Seoul (Agenzia Fides) - It is an information and knowledge service of the magisterium of Pope Francis, of the activities and initiatives of the Holy See and of the life of the universal Church which has enjoyed undoubted success among Korean Catholics, and beyond, and it is a sign of the fruitful collaboration between the Catholic Church in Korea and the Holy See: with great favor and general appreciation, the Catholic Church in Korea evaluates and relaunches the Korean-language service of the "Vatican News" portal, now on the second anniversary, which took place on 25 July 2018. This is what the Commission for communications in the archdiocese of Seoul reports to Agenzia Fides. The Commission, which takes care of the service, announces with conviction that the work will continue in the future, given the good results and the valuable cultural impact which occurs in the context of Korean society.
"It was the first case in which a local Church became directly involved. About 70 percent of the articles on the Vatican are translated and presented on the Korean web page, which is of great spiritual and cultural help for many Korean faithful. I hope that our case will be an example for the possible launch of other language editions in the future, thanks to the similar commitment of other local Churches", said to Fides Father Matthias Hur Young-yup, vice president of the Commission for communications of the Archdiocese of Seoul and Director of the Korean Service.
In addition to the director, the team is composed of a proofreader, a copy-editor, five translators and two coordinators - one based in Rome and one in Seoul. They are priests and lay people who carried out theological studies. The team selects the articles and provides a quality translation, appreciated by the public.
Korean web page views have steadily increased since it opened, and have now averaged over 3,500 views per day. This is thanks to the effective promotional initiatives activated, with various means of communication, by the archdiocese of Seoul, such as the Catholic Internet service "GoodNews", Seoul Jubo (Seoul Weekly Newsletter), the Facebook page of the Archdiocese of Seoul, TV Catholic CPBC TV, Catholic-inspired local radios, newspapers and newsletters.
