Antananarivo (Agenzia Fides) - In Antananarivo the number of coronavirus-related deaths is increasing with eight of the ten victims reported by the operational command center for the fight against coronavirus. Another case of death is reported in the Atsinanana region, whose capital, Toamasina, is experiencing a decrease in the number of positives. The majority of regions have coronavirus cases. 484 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported, of which 433 in the Analamanga region, where despite the confinement decreed in this region, the cases increase day by day. The total deaths are 53, of which 10 only in the last few days.
At the end of May the Bishops of Madagascar had thanked the health workers and the Defense and Security Forces (SDF) for their efforts to contain the pandemic and to support the victims of Covid-19.
On this occasion, the Bishops’Conference of Madagascar (CEM) stressed that "the health crisis reveals the importance of an efficient health structure (...), we believe the time has come to look for ways to improve public health as a whole", recommended CEM. All the more, as the Bishops remembered, the Country, in addition to the war against Covid-19, is facing dengue and malaria, which are causing more coronavirus victims. The Bishops finally criticized the spread of disinformation about the coronavirus that pushes the population to lower its guard. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides, 17/7/2020)
