Quebec (Agenzia Fides) - The Minister of Justice of Quebec, Sonia LeBel, has recently presented a bill to modify the civil code and, in particular, to ensure that civil actions in the field of sexual violence, child abuse and marital violence, do not statute-barred by limitation. A proposal that finds the consensus of the local Bishops who, in a note, say: "We welcome this legislative measure, concerned that victims can receive justice".
The Bishops recall: "although it is evident that financial compensation can contribute to the expression of justice, it is equally evident that financial compensation cannot, on its own, compensate and alleviate the prejudice caused by such acts of violence", which is why the Catholic Church of Quebec "wishes to participate, together with the victims, in the pastoral actions necessary to respectfully seek reconciliation and reparation" from these traumas.
