Lima (Agenzia Fides) - Photos of people killed by COVID-19 covered the benches and walls of the Cathedral of Lima on Sunday for a Corpus Christi mass in tribute to the victims of the coronavirus, officiated by the archbishop of the Peruvian capital, Carlos Castillo.
With the cathedral behind closed doors, the images of the fatal victims of the pandemic were the only attendees of this homily that was broadcast on national television and by social networks.
The photographs sent in the previous days by the relatives of the deceased not only covered all the benches of the main Catholic center of Peru but also covered the great columns and walls of the temple.
"On the solemnity of Corpus Domini we join in one voice to pray for our dead, to honor their memory and to thank them for what they left in our lives", reads the Twitter account of the Archbishopric of Lima.
During the mass, which had the motto "With your body, O Christ, touch and resurrect our dead due to the pandemic", Archbishop Carlos Castillo declared himself "pleasantly and deeply surprised by the response of our people" to carry out this collective farewell. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 16/6/2020)
