Bogotà (Agenzia Fides) - "The Family Commission has been strengthened and organized to support these situations during the health emergency, and highlighted the need to start virtual training processes for more family pastoral workers, in order to accompany the needs of families", says a message from the Family Committee of the Colombian Bishops’ Conference (CEC) sent to Fides.
On the other hand, when we take stock of what the Month of the family represented (see Fides, 6/5/2020), which ends on June 14, and which was proposed by the Department for marriage and the family of CEC and by the National Commission for Marriage and Family, what was observed was that ecclesiastical jurisdictions developed the suggested interactive catechesis, sharing photos and videos of the work done.
Some of the positive aspects that are occurring in this space for dialogue, highlight the reinforcement that occurred in many homes during this confinement period, i.e., more dialogue and sharing of tasks among different family members. Another positive contribution was the family's learning of technological realities.
The issue of domestic violence was also touched: according to reports, it has grown due to confinement. In this regard, the participants underlined the service that some particular Churches offered to families, such as telephone lines available for accompanying and listening to the victims and the creation of virtual spaces to support families with an interdisciplinary team of priests, psychologists and couples, who receive virtual training and an update process every 8 days.
