Tombura-Yambio (Agenzia Fides) - "Let's avoid clashes, fighting or violence, let's not get involved in any conflict because of the desire for power", says to Agenzia Fides the bishop of the diocese of Tombura Yambio, Mgr. Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala appealing to rebel groups that are wreaking havoc in the Country. "War does not help, instead it causes distractions and hinders development - underlines the Prelate who invites the two factions involved to speak and seek a solution to the conflict instead of bringing the State back to the era of war. Hiiboro urges guerrillas to think about the days of war in which many lost their lives, the Country was destroyed and millions of people were displaced. "All together we joined the 2005 Peace Agreement which ended a long war between north and south and which was renewed in February 2020, and you are also an integral part of this agreement", he insists. "Citizens are already traumatized by the COVID-19 pandemic, they do not need further violence". Bishop Eduardo appealed to the Christian faithful to intensify prayer, especially during this month of the rosary, in order to overcome the pandemic that continues to cause havoc all over the world. He invited them not to lose hope and trust in Jesus who promised to stay close to us until the end of time. Currently in South Sudan there are 74 positive cases, the Government has reviewed the blocking measures previously issued, internal flights are expected to resume soon and the curfew has been moved to ten in the evening. Since the signing of the peace agreement renewed in February 2020, the situation in the country has been relatively peaceful and citizens hope that it will be a new era for peace.
Last night, May 7, 2020, President Salva Kiir Mayardit announced some deadlocked provisions. Among these, the transition of six States to the former national unity government will take the six states Central Equatorial, Eastern Equatorial, Lakes State, Warrap State, Nothern Bahr El Ghazel and Unity State. The separatist political party SPLM/A-IO will go to the three states of Jonglei, Western Bahr Ghazel, western Equatorial State, while the upper Nile State to the South Sudan Oppsition Allaince (SSOA) party.
