Madrid (Agenzia Fides) - Sunday 3rd May, 4th Sunday of Easter, known as the Sunday of the Good Shepherd from the Gospel passage that is proclaimed during the Mass, the World Day of Prayer for Vocations is celebrated. In Spain it is celebrated together with the Day of Native Vocations. Although this year it is not possible to celebrate it with the community in parishes, Christians are once again called to pray for all the vocations of special consecration in the world.
As the note sent to Agenzia Fides by the National Direction of the PMS (Pontifical Mission Societies) of Spain recalls, "these days we are witnessing the great role that priests, religious and consecrated persons play in this extraordinary pandemic situation. The importance of their presence has been underlined in many testimonies of dedication and accompaniment in our country and around the world. For this reason, it is necessary to pray so that many young people can follow their example and listen to the voice of God".
The World Day of Prayer for Vocations and the Day of Native Vocations is jointly organized by four ecclesial institutions, which represent the diversity and richness of vocations of special consecration: the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE), the Spanish Conference of Religious (CONFER), the Spanish Conference of Secular Institutes (CEDIS) and the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS). This year's motto is "Jesus is alive and wants you alive".
In addition to praying for all vocations, the Day also invites us to pray for the many young people who are called by God to follow him in the mission territories, called "native vocations". The Spanish Church therefore invites us to pray for them and keep the flame of the Gospel alive in their countries and cultures, and to contribute financially, so that none of these vocations are lost for lack of means of sustenance.
