Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - On Easter Sunday, April 12, in the Shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe, "Empress of America", the "Act of consecration to the Most Holy Virgin Mary took place, under the title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, in the face of the spread of Covid-19 that has paralyzed the world", explained by the Archbishop of Truijllo, Mgr. Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte, President of CELAM, who promoted the initiative (see Fides, 1/4/2020).
The Mass, presided over by Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, primate of Mexico, was broadcast by the media: radio, television and digital platforms. In addition to the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, the local Churches of the United States, Canada and the Philippines joined the act of consecration. The broadcast on Facebook reached almost forty thousand people simultaneously. CELAM had in fact invited all the communities of the continent to join spiritually in this act, by ringing the bells and preparing for Mass and consecration with the prayer of the Rosary.
"In our peoples there is a profound faith in the Most Holy Virgin Mary, and always, in critical moments such as epidemics, plague and wars, they have pleaded with faith for the maternal protection of the Mother of Jesus" explained the President of CELAM, recalling the apparition to San Juan Diego. "Today we return to feeling small and fragile in the face of disease and pain - continued the Bishop - to ask for your intercession for all humanity, in particular for your most vulnerable children: the elderly, children, the sick, indigenous, migrants".
Mgr. Cabrejos Vidarte asked Our Lady of Guadalupe "for health and the end of the pandemic" and concluded: "In this difficult moment, turn your gaze on us and open the door to health, hope and joy". (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 13/4/2020)
