Dhaka (Agenzia Fides) - Masses and liturgies of the Easter Triduum are online for the Catholic community in Bangladesh, given the Covid-19 emergency: this is what the Catholic bishops of the nation reiterated, inviting the baptized to take part, with faith, in mass celebrations, adoration and the Via crucis that prepare the faithful for Easter, also through mass media. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference reiterated that the Catholic Church will scrupulously observe the government's indications in order to combat coronavirus infection and will not hold gatherings of faithful.
Mass has already started to be offered online in different dioceses: the archdiocese of Dhaka has held Sunday Mass on Facebook social network live since 29 March and the experiment can be considered successful, given that 61,000 people connected.
Father Augustine Bulbul Rebeiro, director of the Christian Communication Center of Dhaka, says to Fides: "We have activated a live streaming on Facebook to allow the faithful to participate in the Mass. We have invited everyone to participate actively by responding as an assembly during the liturgy and singing suitable songs".
The faithful participated via mobile phone, TV or computer. Maria Gomes, a Catholic teacher, tells Fides: "I have not been able to participate in the Holy Mass, through Facebook for more than two weeks. In this Covid emergency we thus had the opportunity to follow and celebrate our Sunday".
Sudhir Gomes, a Catholic involved in an NGO, says: "This year I was unable to receive the Sacrament of Confession before Easter. But my heart is filled with love for Jesus Christ with spiritual communion. We will not be able to be at Easter Mass in church, but we will be in contact with God and with the other faithful with our prayers"- (FC -PA) (Agenzia Fides, 9/4/2020)
