Lima (Agenzia Fides) - The general coordinator of "Caritas in the face of the coronavirus" campaign, reported on April 3 on national television, that the Caritas network has already assisted about 40,000 families across the nation, through the delivery of food kits, canteen service and information campaigns. These families live in conditions of extreme poverty and, due to compulsory social isolation, they cannot obtain even minimal economic income that would allow them to survive.
The coordinator also explained that Cáritas Perú, has coordinated with the Diocesan Caritas network: "The donations are distributed through the diocesan Caritas, in different ways. In the case of Caritas Lima, the food is prepared in the dining rooms of religious congregations and is then distributed with the support of the army and the municipalities. In other cases, food vouchers are used within the country to be delivered to previously identified families or the distribution is carried out house by house, always taking into account the security measures and social distancing", reads the note.
The parishes, at a national level, have carried out the census work of the most needy families in their areas, those who are in extreme vulnerability and who have not benefited from any support. Several diocesan Caritas are conducting awareness campaigns together with information on coronavirus prevention, with radio spots and flyers that are disseminated through social networks. Caritas Perú is redirecting the support received from companies to the Diocesan Caritas, which immediately distribute it to the most vulnerable families. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 9/4/2020)
