Santiago (Agenzia Fides) - "We meet today, December 18, the day in which the United Nations Organization called for the International Day of Migrants. We chose this date because, with this act and the signing of this agreement, we want to be in communion with the thousands of organizations - many of which are faith-based institutions like us - that work all over the world to accompany the path of life of millions of migrants, refugees and victims of trafficking".
It is a step in the agreement signed yesterday, World Migrant Day, by various institutions with which the Chilean section of Red Clamor is established. The Red Clamor is the Latin American network of migration, shelter and human trafficking who coordinate the works of the Catholic Church that accompany migrants, refugees and victims of trafficking, based on the four verbs indicated by Pope Francis: to welcome, protect, promote and integrate.
According to the note of the Chilean Bishops' Conference, sent to Fides, the signatory organizations are: the Chilean Catholic Institute for Migration (INCAMI), the Department for Human Mobility of the Archbishopric of Santiago, the Dolores Sopeña Corporation, the Vicariate of social Pastoral Care - Caritas of the Archbishopric of Santiago, the National Office of Incidence and Studies of the Jesuit Service for Migrants, the Welcome Brother Foundation, the Conference of Religious of Chile CONFERRE, the Scalabrini Foundation and Caritas Chile.
At the time of signing, the organizations reiterated that "in the Church, no one is a foreigner and the Church is not a foreigner for any man or woman, and anywhere. As a sacrament of unity and, therefore, as a sign of strength and aggregation of every human race, the Church is the place where migrants (refugees, victims of trafficking) are also gathered and welcomed as brothers. It is not just about migrants, it is about human persons". (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 19/12/2019)
