ASIA/CHINA - Fen Yang diocese starts new year with ordination of 2 priests and 3 deacons

Fen Yang (Fides Service) - Catholics in Fen Yang diocese, Shan Xi province, China celebrated two important events at the beginning of the new year: the ordinations of 2 priests and 3 deacons. The 3 new deacons studied at Hebei Seminary and at the National Seminary in Beijing. The two new priests studied at G. Montecorvino Shan Xi Provincial Seminary. A crowd of 400 lay people and 20 religious braved below zero temperatures to attend the ordinations and 35 priests concelebrated.
Fen Yang (formerly Lv Liang) was created in 1946. Today in includes 13 districts and has a Catholic population of 16,000, assisted by 32 priests 43 women religious, 26 major seminarians 9 minors, and there are 49 churches. The Catholic community runs hospitals, organises evening Bible classes for young people as well as courses in law and humanistic and scientific subjects.
