New Delhi (Fides Service) - The Salesians in Hyderabad, capital of Andra Pradesh, south east India have opened a new Youth Centre for Prayer and Pilgrimage.
The Hyderabad Centre was inaugurated by Salesian rector major Rev. Pascual Chávez, according to the Salesian bulletin ANS. He addressed a crowd of Salesians, young people and friends and blessed a Bust of Saint John Bosco.
The Centre’s prayer hall consecrated in 2003 is decorated with motives of Christian, Hindu and Muslim spirituality. Stained glass windows show scenes in the life and work of John Bosco and his followers.
Salesians have served the people of India for over a hundred years providing education and training for young people, helping street children to start a new life, proclaiming the Gospel. Dioceses all over the country are very grateful for the presence and service offered by Salesian men and women religious.
Salesians the rector major said “are first of all apostles, then people involved in social assistance”. The first Salesian missionaries reached Thanjavur in February 1906. Local men and women soon joined the Order and today India has the second largest Salesian community in the world and sends missionaries to other countries.
