EUROPE/SPAIN - The Extraordinary Missionary Month has revitalized missionary enthusiasm in the dioceses

Madrid (Agenzia Fides) - "The Extraordinary Missionary Month has ended, but what cannot end is the impetus that the Holy Spirit has placed in the hearts of Christians. Mission has ceased to be something which belongs to a few. Now it belongs to all Christians". This is how Fr. José María Calderón, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Spain, summarizes, in a note sent to Agenzia Fides, the hundreds of events held in all the Spanish dioceses during this period.
At a national level, a missionary congress gathered more than 380 participants in Madrid in September, including theologians, missionaries and people involved in missionary animation (see Fides, 13/9/2019).
At a diocesan level, recalls the PMS note of Spain, more than 300 events were held in different parts of the country: about 180 masses and missionary prayer meetings, 10 exhibitions, 50 conferences and round tables, 3 speeches, 9 concerts and missionary festivals, 5 marches ... Activities that were open to all people, of all ages and ecclesial conditions, who had missionaries as their main protagonists and as their sole objective to remember that all the baptized are missionaries. "It is not yet time to take stock or make naive or utopian projects for the future, but to verify that ‘something new is being born, do you not perceove it?’ (Is 43,19): the desire that Christ is known and loved by all", concludes Fr. José María Calderón. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 4/11/2019)
