Posadas (Agenzia Fides) - In a conversation with Radio Tupambaé, the Bishop of the Diocese of Posadas, Mgr. Juan Rubén Martínez, reflected on the electoral campaign that is taking place throughout the country, which has reached its last stage, for the general elections of 27 October, in which the country will elect the president for the next four years (see Fides, 10/10/2019). The Bishop was struck and surprised by the lack of proposals on behalf of the main candidates, or at least those that seem to have a greater chance of winning, on issues that he called sensitive to the population: "No one raises structural problems. How can we get out of this uncertainty? No one says where we are going, what we will do. No one talks about macroeconomic issues, 50% of children are below the poverty line. Problems concerning public education. Sensitive questions of the population such as life, abortion, positions regarding gender ideology ... are silenced".
Mgr. Martinez also spoke about the candidates in the national parliament, who are there in every district but no one has ever heard the positions on key questions: "The truth about those who go to Congress is that we do not know them, nor their positions on key issues, economic, educational, etc.".
The Bishop asked the community to take advantage of the debate next Sunday to see if any of the candidates proposes solutions to the main problems that the country is going through. "We have to give a responsible vote", he reiterated. Mgr. Martínez insisted on the lack of proposals: "There is talk of superficial problems, but as far as projects are concerned, there is little or nothing". (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 11/10/2019)
