Rome (Agenzia Fides) - The exhibition entitled "Languages, Mission, Memory; the contribution of Comboni Missionaries to the study and preservation of local languages in their work of proclaiming the Gospel" begins today on the feast of St. Daniel Comboni. Set up in the General House of the Comboni Missionaries in Rome (via Luigi Lilio 80), to celebrate the International Year of Indigenous Languages announced by the UN and the Extraordinary Missionary Month announced by Pope Francis, the exhibition intends to commemorate the commitment of the Comboni Missionaries in the study and translation of texts in some African languages.
The exhibition, according to the press release sent to Fides, is divided into six sections: grammars/dictionaries, catechisms, Sacred History texts, liturgical texts, educational texts and music. The aim is to offer a range of texts translated into local languages trying to describe the ethnic group, the geographical position and the author. Furthermore, images, historical stories and historical maps of the territories where the missionaries worked are exhibited. The exhibition presentation conference will be held on October 14th at 6 pm, in the General House of the Comboni Missionaries. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 10/10/2019)
