Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - "Every October the Catholic Church promotes the prayer of the Holy Rosary and support for missions which this year are also joined by the Synod for the Amazon and the Extraordinary Missionary Month, both announced by Pope Francis. Moreover, in our country, regional elections are approaching and in these days various initiatives are being carried out related to the defense of life". This is recalled by the Bishops' Conference of Colombia (CEC), in the text sent to Agenzia Fides, which in this context invites ecclesiastical jurisdictions and all parishes, religious communities, movements and apostolic groups, families and the faithful in general, to pray the holy Rosary on Monday 7 October, feast of the Virgin of the Rosary.
Every community and every single believer will choose the time and the most suitable ways for prayer, according to the intentions that the Bishops propose: "So that the Holy Spirit arouses a new missionary springtime in the Church; so that we all strive to defend life from conception to natural death; so that we can live the next elections in peace and can choose our rulers well; so that the Synod of the Amazon generates a serious commitment to evangelization and care for the common Home; so that families, thanks to a life of prayer and love, become places of humanization".
The Bishops' statement concludes: "The day, which will be animated through traditional and digital media, is a proposal to strengthen the faith and the missionary spirit, recalling that in the Church of Christ we are ‘baptized and sent’."
Also on Monday 7 October, at 3 pm (Italian time), Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, will lead the prayer of the Holy Rosary in the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
