Abidjan (Agenzia Fides) - Violence, sacrifices of children, suicides, increased child pregnancies, incivility, criminality, are among the many evils that undermine Ivorian society. "The Ivory Coast is getting worse in this regard", highlights to Agenzia Fides Fr. Donald Zagore, priest of the Society for African Missions, in reference to the umpteenth episode of violence registered in the country of which he is originally from. The victim this time has aroused further indignation and anger among the Ivorian population because it is an act of rape that led to the death of a 3-year-old child.
"In reality - notes Zagore - this dramatic event, among many other dramatic facts, is the sad expression of an Ivorian society which is suffering. It is a society that has no points of reference, in which fundamental values have been sold off to unhealthy and guilty silence and to the lack of the responsibility of some, as well as to the fierce search for fame, glory and wealth".
"The total lack of interest in education has led to death and moral perversion - adds the missionary. To alleviate all the evil that pervades our Ivorian society and obscure its image day after day, we must give ourselves the necessary means, accompanied by a sincere and firm will, to take back the fundamental foundations of education in all its forms and to all levels".
"Only a real education, conducted by men and women, models of an educational system that inspires civilization, respect and fear, can make man good and perfect. No society can survive without a genuine and solid educational system. We put education at the center of our society and we will treat it from many evils. In this challenge, fundamental in the Ivory Coast, the Church must multiply its ardor". (DZ/AP) (Agenzia Fides, 2/10/2019)
