Montevideo (Agenzia Fides) - In view of the Extraordinary Missionary Month, the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Uruguay have prepared several pastoral aids for parish, educational or ecclesial movements: a catechetical proposal for different ages; a daily meditation for every day in the month of October proposed by James H. Kroeger, MM; a missionary Novena.
The missionary Novena develops the theme of the Extraordinary Missionary Month, "Baptized and Sent", and can be used in various circumstances by the communities, especially on the occasion of Patron Saints Day or for Mission Day on October 20. The proposed biblical passages are taken from the book of the Acts of the Apostles: "With the first disciples we experience audacity and creativity in the mission - is what is written in the introduction, collaborating with the Holy Spirit in communion with the Church of Christ. And this audacity means walking with courage and with the fervor of the first who announced the Gospel". For each day there is a symbol (water, chain links, glass, lock and key ...), a biblical text, suggestions for meditation, deepening and prayer.
Presenting the material, the National Director of the PMS of Uruguay, Fr. Leonardo Rodríguez, emphasized that "the Extraordinary Missionary Month places us above all in the 'universal dimension' where the mission of the baptized acquires new horizons that overcome any limit: geographical, cultural , social, idiomatic… to listen again to the missionary mandate of Christ who sends us all. Today there are still multitudes who do not know Christ, and although, surely, we will not all go to another country, to another continent, we must all take on the responsibility so that everyone meets Christ: prayer, the offering of our sorrows and sufferings, testimony and material cooperation are the true expression of our belonging to the Catholic Church".
