Budapest (Agenzia Fides) - "Jesus speaks about the Kingdom of God in the parable of the mustard seed. A seed which is very small, grows into a big plant and bringsforth fruits, even the birds of the air makes their nest on it’s branches. Something like this happened in the land of Hungary ten years ago. A small seed that was planted 10 years back grown into a big plant and it bears much fruits now". Thus writes Fr. Benvin Sebastian, SVD, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Hungary, in a note sent to Agenzia Fides on the tenth anniversary of the Pontifical Society of Holy Childhood in his country, celebrated on September 21st. "When the communism ended in Hungary in 1992, the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) started it’s mission again. But it took many years to start the Holy Childhood. In 2009 we started the society of Holy Childhood with 34 children. Now we have 31 communities with more than 1000 children praying and collecting funds with their little sacrifices for the mission of the universal church".
The celebration was organized in St. Stephen Basilica in Budapest and in the Hungarian parliament.
At 10.am the auxiliary Bishop of Esztergom- Budapest diocese welcomed the children, followed by the speech of Episcopal Commission for Mission dr. László Kiss- Rigó. Then followed the message of the Apostolic Nuncio, Michael August Blume SVD, and the report of the National Director of PMS, Fr. Benvin Sebastian SVD. At 11.15 the thanksgiving Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Cardinal Peter Erdő, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest diocese.
In the afternoon the children went to parliament, where the message of the Hungarian President, and the President of the parliament was read out. This was followed by the speach of Soltész Miklos, secretary of State for Churches, Minorities and Civil affairs. "We ended the jubilee celebration praying for the whole world and for the leaders of the world, especially for Hungarian leaders - writes the National Director of the PMS -. The presence of Sr. Roberta Tremarelli AMSS, general secretary of the Holy Childhood made the celebration richer and encouraging. She managed to visit two communities, one a parish and a Greek Catholic school, where the Holy Childhood Society is active". (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 26/9/2019)
