Saturday, 7 September 2019 peace   saints   violence

Calcutta (Agenzia Fides) - Build peace in India, in the Indian society crossed by violence and religious hatred; promote peace between India and Pakistan, while there is still tension in the tormented region of Kashmir, entrusting these processes to the intercession of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. In this spirit, on the occasion of the feast of the saint, which is celebrated on September 5, a national gathering for peace was organized in Calcutta to honor the 22nd anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa. The Missionaries of Charity, the Church of Saint Teresa of Avila, the Forum of all faiths and other associations and organizations of Indian civil society were among the organizing bodies.
The demonstration for peace began from the Church of Saint Teresa of Avila and ended at the Mother House of the Missionaries of Charity, where those present lived a prayer meeting open to the faithful of every religion. The people present launched the appeal "No more war, we want peace", affirming that "peace is the answer to the crucial political and moral issues of our time".
The gathering was enriched by the presence of folk singer Sanajit Mondal, who published a musical album on Mother Teresa, and sang in the presence of religious leaders, priests, consecrated men, nuns, sportsmen, citizens of other religious communities in Calcutta.
Mathew Fernandes, one of the Catholic faithful present, told Fides: "Mother Teresa was a unique person, consecrated to God who sacrificed her life for the destitute and suffering humanity. She was a gentle and humble person of heart, a person of peace. May the Saint help the path of reconciliation and peace in South Asia". (SD) (Agenzia Fides, 7/9/2019)
