Warsaw (Agenzia Fides) – Fr. Alessandro Barelli, SDB, is the first National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in the history of Lithuania (see Fides, 25/7/2019). These days he met Mgr. Tomasz Atłas, National Director of the PMS in Poland, who explained to him the initiatives planned by the National Direction for the Extraordinary Missionary Month (EMM) and the material and subsidies prepared for this exceptional missionary period.
According to information sent to Agenzia Fides by the PMS National Direction of Poland, Fr. Alessandro expressed his gratitude for the collaboration and said he relies on Poland's help to learn more about the PMS structures. The new Director also expressed his desire to live the EMM in Lithuania deeply and in a fruitful manner. First of all he would like to meet the priests of the diocese of Vilnius, to make them aware of missionary themes, while another priority will be the pastoral care of catechists.
Fr. Barelli said he was fascinated by the figure of the Servant of God Pauline Jaricot, foundress of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith, and it is therefore his intention to spread the missionary dimension of the prayer of the Rosary among the Lithuanian faithful. Fr. Barelli launched the Lithuanian internet portal in preparation for the EMM, at the address misijos.katalikai.lt, where various types of material are already available and will be further enriched in the coming weeks.
