Sirajganj (Agenzia Fides) - In Bangladesh, the monsoon rains continue to affect most of the country, in particular the central-northern and south-eastern regions. The Cox’s Bazar area, which is home to more than one million Rohingya refugees, seems to have had no respite for over a month. The Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of Health Directorate reports that, after two weeks of monsoon rains, the severe floods have caused at least 90 deaths and over 1,500,000 displaced people. 3.5 million people have been affected.
Caritas Bangladesh has helped bring aid to the population of Kazipur Upazila in Sirajganj, diocese of Rajshahi. Sukleash George Costa, regional director of Cartas Rajshahi, told Fides: "people suffer in the area affected by the flood. Among the aid given so far, we have delivered 10 kilos of rice, 2 kilos of lentils, 1 kilo of salt, 1 liter of soy oil and cash to 400 families. Costa also specified that he also wants to work for post-flood recovery. According to Caritas sources, aid will soon be distributed in other areas of the Country.
Bangladesh is a country subject to environmental disasters that cause deaths every year. (FC) (Agenzia Fides, 26/7/2019)
