AFRICA/IVORY COAST - The President of the Bishops’ Conference to politicians: "Preserve social peace; no to hate speeches"

Abidjan (Agenzia Fides) - "The Ivorian political class, in particular all those who hold authority, have to work to preserve the socio-political environment, safeguard peace by respecting the rules of democracy", said His Exc. Mgr. Ignace Bessi Dogbo, Bishop of Katiola and President of the Bishops’ Conference of the Ivory Coast, in Agboville in opening the works of the 113th Plenary Assembly of Ivorian Bishops, whose theme is "Acting together to build the Church".
The President of the Episcopal Conference of the Ivory Coast has encouraged all those involved in politics, "to do everything possible to pacify the socio-political environment, avoiding any verbal violence".
Taking up the theme of the assembly, the Bishop of Katiola said: "I would like to invite all Catholics, whatever their level of integration into society and the Church is, to build the Church so that the Church can form them".
The Ivory Coast is preparing to live a long electoral campaign in view of the general elections to be held in October 2020 and which is already arousing concern regarding possible violent actions.
