San Paolo (Agenzia Fides) - The 34th Migrant Week began yesterday, Sunday, June 16, throughout the country, which will end on Sunday 23. According to information sent to Agenzia Fides, the theme of the week is as always linked to the theme of the Fraternity Campaign: this year the theme is "Migration and public policies" and the motto: "Accept, protect, promote, integrate and celebrate. The struggle is every day".
"We invite all operators of the Pastoral Care of Migrants, together with priests, men and women of good will, sensitive to the pain of others, to reflect and seek out ways of action, starting from Pope Francis' invitation to welcome, protect, promote and integrate the migrant", said His Exc. Mgr. José Luiz Ferreira Sales, Bishop of Pesqueira, referent of the sector of human mobility within the framework of the Bishops’ Conference and president of the Pastoral Care of Migrants (SPM). In this context, the Bishop informs that the Pastoral Service of migrants is working to obtain greater possibilities of safe and legal entry for migrants in destination countries, for actions in defense of the rights and dignity of migrants and refugees.
Material on the reality of migration in Brazil and to encourage the actions during the week, was sent to the various Churches and local communities, underlining two important dates: June 20, World Day of Refugees and 25, the Day of Migrants. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 17/6/2019)
