Rome (Agenzia Fides) – To welcome, protect, promote and integrate: the 4 verbs of migration, launched by Pope Francis, are summarized in "Chaire Gynai" (which means "Welcome, woman"), a project wanted by the Pope himself and embraced from the Congregation of the Scalabrinian Missionary Sisters. It is a path of integration for migrant women, refugees and their children, who on 1 June, the liturgical feast of Blessed Giovanni Battista Scalabrini, celebrated their first anniversary (see Fides, 1/10/2018) .
"It is a semi-autonomy project based on welcoming, protecting, promoting and integrating paths of independent life and processes of citizenship and social inclusion, helping them to overcome fear with hope", explains Sister Eleia Scariot, the Scalabrinian religious coordinator of the project, in the note sent to Agenzia Fides. Several migrants spent the year in the two houses made available for Chaire Gynai in Rome this year, some of whom have already completed their semi-autonomy path and have already left their homes. Now they work and are integrated in the city of Rome.
“We can see the fruits of this project and we are happy - says Sister Neusa de Fatima Mariano, general superior of the Scalabrinians - It is a year full of gratitude for the volunteers, the institutions and for all the congregations that participated in a project which for us was a dream come true". "It is a privilege to carry out this project with a profound action of communion", said Sister Barbara Louise Staley, superior of the missionary sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Chaire Gynai is a project carried out with the collaboration of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, the Uisg (Italian Union of Superiors General), the Migrants Office of the Diocese of Rome and thanks to the support of the Institute of the Sister missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Cabriniane) who have made available their structures and all the commitment necessary for the realization.
