ASIA/JAPAN - Appointment of the Auxiliary of Nagasaki

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis appointed Rev. Peter Peter Michiaki Nakamura, currently parish priest of Miura-machi, as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Nagasaki (Japan), assigning him the titular see of Fessei.
The newly elected Bishop was born on March 21, 1962 in Saikai-city, Nagasaki Prefecture. He was a student at the Nagasaki Minor Seminary. He studied Philosophy and Theology at San Sulpizio Major Seminary in Fukuoka. He obtained his licentiate in Moral Theology at the Alfonsiana Academy in Rome (1994). He was ordained a priest on March 19, 1988 for the Archdiocese of Nagasaki. Since his priestly ordination he has held the following roles: Formator in the Minor Seminary of the Archdiocese of Nagasaki (1988-1989); Parish Vicar in the Parish of Nakamachi (1989-1991); Postgraduate studies in Moral Theology in Rome (1991-1994); Formator in the Minor Seminary of the Archdiocese of Nagasaki (1994-1999); Parish Vicar in the Cathedral Parish of Urakami (1999-2002); Parish priest of the Parish of Togitsu (2002-2005); Formator in the Major Seminary in Fukuoka (2005-2007); Parish priest of the Parish of Uematsu (2007-2014); since 2009: Professor of Moral Theology at the Major Seminaries of Fukuoka and Tokyo; since 2014: parish priest of the parish of Miura-machi.
