ASIA/INDIA - Appointment of Coadjutor Bishop of Baruipur

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed as Coadjutor Bishop of the diocese of Baruipur, India, the Rev. Shyamal Bose, of the clergy of Baruipur, currently Bursar and Chancellor of the same diocese.
The bishop-elect was born on March 24, 1961 in Gosaba, diocese of Baruipur. He holds a licentiate in biblical theology from the Pontifical Institute of Saint Peter, Bangalore. He was ordained a priest on 5 May 1991 for the diocese of Baruipur.
Since priestly ordination he has held a number of pastoral roles: Parish Vicar of St. Anthony's Church in Keorapukur (1991-1994); Parish Vicar of Ascension Church in Khari (1994-1996); Parish priest of Ascension Church in Khari (1996-1998); Director of the Diocesan Social Services Center Palli Unnayan Samiti (1998-2006); Vicar General and Chancellor of the Diocese of Baruipur (2000-2006); Parish priest of the Sacred Heart Church in Thakurpukur (2006-2008); Studies for a Licentiate in Biblical Theology, Bangalore (2008-2010); Director of the Regional Social Center, Association of Bengal Collaborators for Development (ABCD) (2010-2011); Parish Vicar of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Kumrokhali (2012-2013); Parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Kumrokhali (2013-2016); since 2016 Bursar and Chancellor of the diocese of Baruipur.
