Kolowaré (Agenzia Fides) - "Together with all our people, here in Togo, we accompany our dear brother Gigi Maccalli, in the hands of the kidnappers for eight months, with our prayer, friendship, memory and an intense plea for his release", explains missionary Father Silvano Galli, a priest of the Society for African Missions, recalling the abduction of Fr. Pier Luigi Maccalli, SMA missionary kidnapped in Niger on the night between 17 and 18 September 2018.
"We hope to embrace Fr. Gigi Maccalli soon - he continues. In recent months, the group of the Renewal in the Spirit of Sokodé has held a series of meetings in which about thirty people gathered in the church to attend weekly teachings. The purpose of the meetings is to help people get rid of all their fears and heal their wounds, even the most hidden ones". Father Galli says "we gather around the Word of God, and everyone present is invited to organize, even a corner of their own home, where to gather, pray, reflect, be silent".
All the faithful, says Fr. Galli "continue to remember Fr. Maccalli in personal and community prayer". The hope for his release has not been lost and every day the kidnapped missionary "is entrusted to the Providence of God". "Every baptized person offers his life to the Lord, and we are in spiritual communion with Fr. Luigi", he concludes (SG/AP) (Agenzia Fides, 17/5/2019)
