AFRICA/DR CONGO - International Women's Day: an occasion for interreligious dialogue

Monday, 11 March 2019

Mbata Mbenge (Agenzia Fides) - "Unity among the churches is very important and can pass through women, who are pillars of family life, but also of the life of faith", says Mrs. Josephine Pfiti, promoter of the interreligious celebrations of the International Women's Day in the city of Mbata Mbenge, in the west of the Democratic Republic of Congo on the border with the enclave of Cabinda
The event brought together women belonging to the Catholic Church and the Protestant Church of Christ in Congo (CEC) and two local historical churches, the Kimbanguista Church and the Christian Union of the Holy Spirit Church (ECUSE).
Mrs. Pfiti says that "last year the celebration took place in the Catholic parish church, and this year was held in the Kimbanguisti Church to give each entity the opportunity to meet. Next year the event may be held at the Protestant place of worship".
An encounter of this kind, in the context of interreligious dialogue, is an important event in this rather rural environment on the borders of the diocese of Boma. Mrs. Josephine Pfiti is a committed person and devoted to the Virgin Mary, a mother, president of women in the South Tsundi sector, and has initiated several small projects for the local population.
